Sitopaladi churna is an Ayurvedic herbal remedy composed of a mixture of four plants ingredients including Vanshlochan (Bambusa arundinacea), Pippali, (Piper longum) Ela (Cardamum zeylanicum), Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) and Mishri. It is having very good anti-tussive and anti-expectorant activity and hence can be used in bronchial infections and ailments like Pneumonia, and Cough etc. It is also used as a carminative, and as a digestive agent. As aqueous extract of Sitopaladi churna is inhibiting alpha amylase enzyme activity, the churna can be used to treat the insulin resistance-disease like diabetes. Presence of phenolic compounds in Sitopaladi churna shows antioxidant activity and hence it can be utilized as a natural antioxidant agent. Flavonoids of the Sitopaladi churna shows antihistaminic and antiallergic activity Sitopaladi churna and because of this it is used in allergic conditions like hypersensitivity reaction mediated by IG-E. Mast cell stabilizing activity of the churna is due to piperine, an important chemical constituent of the formulation (1, 2).
